Privacy Policy

The short version

When you upload a photo for roasting, we send it to our AI, generate your roast and product recommendations, then delete the photo. We don't store it. If you choose to submit to the Hall of Flame, that's a separate opt-in action that requires your email and explicit consent.

Standard roasting (private)

When you upload a photo for a roast:

• Your photo is sent to our AI service for analysis
• We generate your roast and product recommendations
• Results are returned to your browser
• Your photo is immediately discarded — we don't save it

You can share the roast image that's generated in your browser, but that's created locally on your device. We never see or store it.

Hall of Flame submission (opt-in public)

If you choose to submit your roast to the Hall of Flame:

• You must provide your email address
• You must confirm you have permission to share the photo publicly
• Your photo is uploaded to our storage and displayed in the gallery
• Your submission goes through moderation before appearing publicly
• You're automatically entered in our monthly $25 Amazon gift card drawing (see rules)

Gallery submission is completely optional. Most users just get roasted and move on — that's totally fine!

What NOT to submit to the gallery

If you do choose to submit to the Hall of Flame, do not include photos containing:

• Identifiable people
• Personal documents, mail, or sensitive information visible
• Rooms belonging to others without their permission
• Explicit, illegal, or inappropriate content
• Photos of children's rooms

Our moderation team reviews all submissions before they go live.

Requesting removal

If you submitted a photo to the gallery and want it removed, email us at hey@roomroaster.com with your email address or the room URL, and we'll remove it within 48 hours.

Data we collect

For all users:

• Basic analytics (page views, not tied to individuals)
• A hashed version of your IP address (for rate limiting only, not stored long-term)

If you submit to the Hall of Flame:

• Your room photo and generated roast
• Your email address (for winner notification and removal requests)

If you subscribe to updates:

• Your email address

Data we don't collect

• Your name or identity (no accounts required)
• Your exact location
• Cookies for cross-site tracking
• Photos from standard roasts (deleted immediately)
• Purchase information from affiliate links

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services:

• OpenAI — For AI analysis and roast generation. Your photo is sent to OpenAI for processing, then discarded. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
• Supabase — Database for gallery submissions and email subscriptions.
• Wasabi — Cloud storage for gallery photos only.
• Analytics — Privacy-respecting analytics to understand usage patterns.

Shopping links

Product recommendation links go to third-party retailers (Amazon, Google Shopping, Walmart). These are affiliate links. We don't track your purchases or receive any personal information about what you buy.

Data retention

• Standard roasts: Photos deleted immediately after processing
• Hall of Flame submissions: Retained until you request removal
• Email subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe
• Analytics: Aggregated and anonymized

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Use the roast feature without submitting to the gallery
• Request removal of gallery submissions at any time
• Unsubscribe from email updates at any time
• Request information about data we hold (email us)
